Youngsville, LA — SLEMCO (South Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation) has issued a cautionary notice to residents in the Youngsville area regarding unauthorized door-to-door salespeople using the utility company’s name and logo without permission.
According to a recent social media post from SLEMCO, a group of individuals has been going door-to-door attempting to sell solar panels. While the company acknowledged that solar panels can be a beneficial investment when installed by qualified and reputable providers, it emphasized that these particular salespeople are not affiliated with SLEMCO.
“Solar panels can be a good investment and help on energy costs—if properly installed by qualified, honest companies,” the post stated. “While we don’t know if this particular company is qualified or not, they are definitely using SLEMCO’s logo and name without our permission, which doesn’t indicate truth in advertising on their part.”
SLEMCO is urging customers to exercise caution by asking questions and requesting to see a permit from anyone soliciting door-to-door sales. The utility company confirmed that it is not partnering with any solar companies at this time.
Youngsville Police Department also weighed in on the situation, noting that the salespeople do not have the proper permits to conduct door-to-door sales in the community. The individuals have reportedly been driving white, unmarked vehicles, a detail authorities identified as a possible red flag.
Youngsville Police Chief Jean Paul Broussard confirmed that detectives are actively investigating the case and encouraged anyone who has been approached or has relevant information to contact law enforcement.
“If you have any tips or have been approached from any of these individuals, please pass on the information to Youngsville Police,” Chief Broussard said.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to door-to-door sales in the area.
