LAFAYETTE, La. – Snowfall continued to wreak havoc on roads and highways across Acadiana, prompting numerous closures throughout the region. Lafayette Parish officials announced the following closures for Wednesday, as winter weather persisted in the area.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) reported that both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were shut down for significant stretches. Eastbound I-10 was closed from the Louisiana/Texas state line to Baton Rouge, while westbound lanes were blocked from Louisiana Avenue in Lafayette to the Texas border.
In Lafayette, additional closures included sections of I-10 Eastbound from I-49, as well as I-10 Westbound near the Ambassador near Cameron Overpass. Other closures within the city were reported at the following locations:
- 1500 block of W. Pinhook Rd.
- 300 block of Acadian Hills/Pont Des Mouton
- E. University Ave./General Mouton Ave.
- Camelia St./Vermilion River
- 200 block of Pont Des Mouton at the curve
- Multiple intersections near Vermilion River, including Ambassador and Surrey
Scott also saw multiple road closures, particularly near bridges on L. Provost at Breakers Way and on several stretches of W. Willow St., including at the 2300, 2500, and 3000 blocks.
The snowstorm also impacted Youngsville, where major intersections like Larriviere at LA 92 and the 500 block of Griffin were closed. In Broussard, roads like Albertson Parkway from Hwy 90 to St. De Porres were blocked off, while bridges on L. Provost and W. Willow were similarly closed.
Local authorities are urging residents to stay home if possible and avoid travel on affected roads until conditions improve. The heavy snow and icy conditions are expected to persist throughout the day, with more closures potentially arising as weather conditions worsen.
Drivers are encouraged to check real-time traffic updates from DOTD and local law enforcement for the latest information on road conditions and closures.
