ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. – A St. Landry Parish sheriff’s deputy is recovering in the hospital after being intentionally struck by a suspect’s vehicle during an attempted encounter, according to local authorities.
The incident occurred when the deputy, who is in his early 20s, approached a vehicle as part of a routine engagement. The suspect reportedly refused to exit the vehicle and instead accelerated, hitting the deputy and fleeing the scene.
“The individual was in his vehicle and ran over our deputy,” said Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. “We think he’s going to be OK, but he’s got either a leg or hip injury.”
The deputy sustained a possible broken or dislocated leg or hip and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.
As of Friday, the suspect remains at large. Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their search and are urging residents to report any suspicious activity or provide tips that may help locate the individual responsible.
“We’re asking anyone with information to come forward,” Guidroz added. “This was a deliberate act against one of our own, and we will not rest until the suspect is in custody.”
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
