St. Martinville Woman Arrested in Hit-and-Run that Left Child Seriously Injured

ST. MARTINVILLE, LA — A 64-year-old St. Martinville woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a child with serious injuries earlier today.

According to St. Martinville Police, the driver ran through flashing signs on a school bus and struck the child while driving on Main Street near Mimosa Lane. The driver then fled the scene, leaving the injured child behind.

Authorities were able to identify the suspect, Donna Bourque, after reviewing footage from city surveillance cameras. Bourque was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with hit and run causing serious bodily injury.

The child, whose age and condition have not been released, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unclear.

Bourque has been booked into jail with bond set at $1 million. Investigators are continuing to look into the details of the incident.

The St. Martinville community remains shaken by the event, as local residents express concern over the safety of children around school buses. The case highlights the importance of motorists adhering to traffic laws, especially when children’s safety is at risk.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
