Shreveport, LA – LDOTD officials have announced plans for infrastructure enhancements set to commence on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The project aims to bolster road safety by introducing dedicated left turn lanes along LA 173, facilitating smoother traffic flow onto Russell Road in both northbound and southbound directions.

As construction gets underway, intermittent lane closures will be implemented at the intersection to accommodate the necessary work. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and expect the presence of construction crews and equipment in the vicinity.

The installation of dedicated turn lanes serves a crucial purpose in diverting turning vehicles away from through travel lanes, thereby mitigating the risk of severe rear-end collisions. The decision to focus on this intersection stems from a comprehensive analysis of the prevailing crash patterns observed at the site.

Funding for such DOTD safety improvement initiatives is specifically earmarked for projects aimed at enhancing road safety and does not interfere with resources allocated for routine roadway maintenance like asphalt overlays.

Anticipated completion of the project is slated for Summer 2024, though progress may be subject to fluctuations depending on weather conditions and various other factors influencing construction timelines.
