LAFAYETTE, La. — Garbage and recycling pickups scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, in Lafayette Parish have been postponed due to severe weather conditions, including near-blizzard snowfall and dangerous road conditions. Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) and Acadiana Waste Services (AWS) made the announcement earlier today, citing safety concerns for both drivers and residents.
According to AWS President Gus Dugas, the organization will not attempt to run any trash collection routes on Wednesday, as the snow accumulation, hazardous roads, and forecasted hard freeze make it unsafe for their vehicles and employees to operate.
“Given the unprecedented snow accumulation, dangerous road conditions, and the hard freeze forecast for this evening, we can’t imagine a scenario where our vehicles and employees can safely operate tomorrow,” Dugas said.
LCG officials have stated they will continue to monitor road conditions and provide updates as necessary. The resumption of trash and recycling services will depend on the improvement of road conditions and the operational status of regional transfer stations and landfills.
Residents are advised to stay informed on the latest updates from local authorities regarding service rescheduling.
