Travel Advisory for Atchafalaya Basin Bridge Ahead of Winter Weather

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is advising travelers to exercise caution when crossing the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge this Sunday and Monday. Crews will be out pretreating the bridge in preparation for potential winter weather conditions.

Bridges and overpasses are particularly susceptible to icy conditions, often freezing over before surface roadways. As such, DOTD is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of motorists as temperatures dip.

In 2024, icy conditions led to the closure of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, highlighting the risks associated with winter weather. Officials are hoping the pretreatment efforts will help prevent similar disruptions this year.
