Winter Weather Leads to Widespread Road Closures Across Louisiana’s Acadiana Region

by Lina Tarson

LAFAYETTE, La. – Snowfall continued to cause significant disruptions to local traffic in Acadiana on Wednesday, with numerous road closures reported throughout the region. Lafayette Parish authorities issued warnings for residents and travelers to stay off the roads, as icy conditions and hazardous driving conditions persisted.

Among the affected areas in Lafayette, major highways and intersections were closed, including:

  • I-10 Eastbound from I-49
  • I-10 Westbound near Ambassador and the Cameron Overpass
  • Several local roads, including the 1500 block of W. Pinhook Rd., Acadian Hills, and Pont Des Mouton
  • Multiple intersections, including Camelia/Vermillion River, General Mouton/Vermilion River, and Ambassador/Vermillion River

In addition to Lafayette, several other areas in Acadiana faced closures. In Scott, key bridges on W. Willow and L Provost were shut down due to dangerous conditions, while parts of Youngsville, including the Larriviere/LA 92 intersection, were also affected.

Broussard saw significant disruptions as well, with Albertson Parkway and several bridges in the area closed for safety reasons.

Lafayette Regional Airport was also impacted, with road closures near the terminal. Travelers were urged to monitor conditions closely and check with the airport for updates on flight operations.

Officials across Acadiana are advising residents to avoid non-essential travel and to remain alert for ongoing updates on road conditions. Snow and ice accumulation on roadways remain a serious concern for the region as temperatures stay well below freezing.

Local authorities are working diligently to clear the roads, but travelers should expect continued delays and closures throughout the day.
