Lafayette, LA – A 20-year-old woman has been arrested following an attempted murder investigation in an unincorporated area of Duson, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called on Sunday, May 3, 2026, to the 100 block of La Rue Biarritz after receiving reports of a shooting. During the investigation, authorities determined the incident stemmed from a confrontation involving a vehicle and a firearm.

According to investigators, the victim located her boyfriend’s vehicle at the suspect’s residence and began striking it with a baseball bat. Deputies said the victim was then confronted by the suspect, identified as Megan Hayes, who allegedly produced a firearm.

As the victim attempted to leave the scene in her vehicle, investigators said Hayes fired multiple shots, striking the vehicle at least once.

Hayes was later taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of attempted second-degree murder.

Officials said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.
