Lafayette Parish, LA — A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a first-degree murder investigation tied to a residential fire in the Duson area, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, deputies and multiple emergency response agencies were dispatched to a home in the 100 block of Barracks Street after reports of a structure fire. Authorities said the fire occurred in an unincorporated area of Duson.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, a 9-year-old child was found deceased inside the residence. Two adults were also located and transported to a local hospital in critical condition, officials said.
Investigators later determined the fire had been intentionally set. A suspect was identified and located while operating a vehicle during a traffic stop conducted by deputies.
The suspect, identified as Julian Jacob, 28, was taken into custody and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of a protective order, illegal carrying of a weapon, and possession of Schedule I narcotics.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no further information is being released at this time.
