Lafayette, LA — Authorities in Ville Platte confirmed the discovery of human remains north of town off Tate Cove Road, marking the second body found in the area within just three days. This latest find follows the recovery of a body near the MLK Center over the weekend, adding to the growing tension in the community.
While the identity of the remains has not yet been confirmed, law enforcement officials are awaiting the results of an autopsy. The discovery comes amid an ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 16-year-old Dajavon Wilson, who has been missing since earlier this month.
Wilson was last seen at a Dollar General store on Tate Cove Road, and his family remains desperate for answers. Though the body found near the MLK Center has not been identified as Wilson, the news has sparked fresh concern for his safety.
Quanda Wilson, Dajavon’s mother, has been vocal about the emotional strain the search has placed on her family, particularly during the holiday season. “Christmas is just not Christmas anymore,” Wilson said, reflecting on the pain of spending the holidays without her son. “For many families losing people, Christmas is not Christmas.”
Despite the grim news, Wilson remains resolute in her quest to find her son. “I am not going to stop searching, I am not going to stop making calls and finding out where he is,” she stated. The ongoing investigation has yet to confirm whether the recently discovered bodies are related to Wilson’s disappearance.
As the investigation continues, grief counselor Heather Prejean of Hospice of Acadiana offered advice to those coping with loss, especially during such a difficult and emotional time. She acknowledged that grief can feel overwhelming, leaving individuals struggling with concentration and emotional regulation.
“Although our loved ones mean well, they may not know how to support or validate us, and that’s part of the grieving process,” Prejean explained.
Wilson, however, has found strength in her support system. Surrounded by family, she expressed her determination to stay hopeful. “I have a family here with me, and I’m okay. I have a strong bond with my family, but like I said, I do not feel like that is my son, and I will continue to stay positive,” she said.
As police continue their investigation into the recent discoveries, they are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Ville Platte Police Department at 337-363-1316 and speak with Sergeant Guillory.
The Ville Platte community remains on edge as authorities work to uncover the truth behind these unsettling events.
