Fatal Crash in Lafayette Involving SUV and Motorcycle

LAFAYETTE, La. — A fatal traffic collision occurred on the evening of Tuesday, January 14, at the intersection of East Willow Street and Dogwood Drive in Lafayette. The crash, which took place just before 7:45 p.m., has left one person dead.

According to Lafayette police, a preliminary investigation suggests that an eastbound SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Dogwood Drive when it collided with a westbound motorcycle. Emergency responders rushed the motorcyclist to a local hospital, but the individual later succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities have stated that the driver of the SUV is not suspected of being impaired at the time of the crash. The investigation is still ongoing as police work to determine the exact cause of the collision.

In the meantime, law enforcement is advising drivers to avoid the area, as the intersection remains shut down for the investigation. Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes.

The name of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
