Lafayette Police Investigate Death of Woman Following Domestic Altercation

LAFAYETTE, LA — Lafayette police are investigating the death of 44-year-old Shantee Broussard, who was found unresponsive at her residence on Carmel Drive Thursday night. Authorities responded to the home at approximately 9:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman in distress. Upon arrival, paramedics were already performing CPR on Broussard, who was later transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, Broussard had been involved in a domestic altercation with her boyfriend, Jarvon Montague, prior to the incident. Preliminary findings from an autopsy conducted on February 21, 2025, revealed that Broussard suffered injuries consistent with strangulation and blunt force trauma. The official cause of death is still pending further investigation.

In light of suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, investigators quickly established a crime scene at the residence. The home was processed for evidence, and law enforcement officers are continuing to work diligently on the case.

Montague, 46, of New Iberia, was arrested and booked on charges of second-degree murder. He is currently in police custody as the investigation remains ongoing.
