EUNICE, La. — A beloved staple of the Eunice community, Ray’s Bakery, was severely damaged in a fire that broke out Sunday. The Eunice Fire Department confirmed the blaze but has yet to provide further details, including whether the bakery was open at the time or if anyone was inside when the fire began.

Ray’s Bakery, known for its pocket bread, donuts, cakes, and butter cookies, has been a cherished institution in Eunice for over six decades. Founded by Raymond Oncale on June 19, 1959, the bakery quickly became a cornerstone of the local community. Its dedication to quality baked goods and its warm, family-oriented atmosphere earned it a loyal following among residents.

The bakery’s long history in the area has made it a sentimental favorite, as many residents have fond memories tied to its sweet treats. Local resident Racheal Hickerson Francis, who grew up near the bakery, shared her memories of enjoying its signature products. “I love their donuts, but I really love their sprinkle sugar cookies,” she said. “My aunt, who was one of my Sunday school teachers, would spoil us with Ray’s sugar cookies. I grew up around Ray’s since I was a child, and to see it go down is heartbreaking.”

The fire has left the community in shock, with many expressing concern over the loss of a beloved local business. “I hope the community can come together and help with the rebuilding process,” Francis added.

As of now, it remains unclear when the bakery might be able to reopen or how long the recovery efforts will take. The fire is under investigation, and the Eunice Fire Department has not yet released additional details regarding its cause.

Ray’s Bakery’s enduring legacy in Eunice has made it an essential part of the town’s culture. As the community waits for more information, residents are hopeful that the bakery, which has been a source of joy for so many over the years, will be rebuilt and continue to serve future generations.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
