IBERIA PARISH, La. — A $951,000 preservation project is set to begin on Monday, March 10, along a section of Louisiana Highway 87, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD). The work will span from Louisiana 3182 to approximately 0.65 miles southeast of Louisiana 3182.
The project includes several key improvements aimed at maintaining the highway’s condition, including new drainage structures, asphalt milling, pavement patching, and an asphalt concrete overlay. Construction activities will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
During the construction period, lane closures will be implemented. These closures will restrict access to local traffic only, and detour routes will be posted for drivers, utilizing Louisiana 671, Louisiana 182, and Louisiana 3182. The LaDOTD has warned that emergency vehicles may not be able to access the entire area during these closures, potentially causing delays.
When the road is not closed, traffic will be allowed to pass through the area, though a 12-foot maximum lane restriction will be in place for oversized loads traveling through the work zone. Emergency vehicles will still be able to access the area during lane closures, although delays may be experienced.
The preservation project is expected to be completed by May 2025. Drivers are encouraged to stay informed about road conditions and project updates. The LaDOTD offers resources such as the MyDOTD service, where drivers can sign up for updates on local projects and closures. Additionally, motorists can visit the 511 Traveler Information website or dial 511 to receive real-time information about traffic conditions and detours.
With the expected duration of the project, motorists in the area are advised to plan alternate routes to avoid delays and ensure their safety.
