Hit-and-Run Incident Claims Life of Breaux Bridge Man

by Lina Tarson

Breaux Bridge, LA — An 86-year-old man was tragically struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Charles “Charlie” LeBlanc was hit just before 7 a.m. on Doyle Melancon Road, a location known for its concerns about speeding and safety risks. Authorities say that the incident occurred during a period of heavy rain and thunderstorms, which may have impaired visibility for drivers.

St. Martin Parish deputies responded to a 911 call and arrived to find LeBlanc lying on the side of the road, unresponsive. Despite efforts to provide aid, it was confirmed that he had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. As of now, the driver responsible for the crash has not been identified, and an ongoing investigation is seeking any information that may lead to the suspect’s capture.

LeBlanc’s family expressed devastation over the incident, noting the timing of his death. His sister, who lives nearby, explained that her brother had a routine of crossing the street to check his mail, a simple task that turned deadly. The tragedy comes just a week after the passing of LeBlanc’s wife, Elizabeth, due to health-related issues, deepening the grief for the family.

In addition to the personal loss, LeBlanc’s sister highlighted a chilling connection to past tragedies, mentioning that the daughter of a cousin was also killed in a hit-and-run crash a few years ago in the area along Poydras Highway. This reflection on the family’s repeated heartbreak has added to the community’s concerns about road safety.

Residents of the area have raised alarms about speeding on Doyle Melancon Road, a stretch of road where the crash occurred. With its combination of high-speed traffic and limited visibility, locals fear that this deadly accident may not be the last if nothing is done to address the issue.

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents are encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at 337-394-3071, or to anonymously report tips through St. Martin Crime Stoppers at 337-441-3030 or via the free P3 Tips App. Authorities have offered a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a beloved local figure, and concerns about road safety grow ever more pressing. Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and help bring justice to the LeBlanc family.
