Hit-and-Run Incident Claims Life of 86-Year-Old in Breaux Bridge

by Lina Tarson

Breaux Bridge, LA — An 86-year-old man, identified as Charles “Charlie” LeBlanc, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident early Monday morning, March 24, 2025, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. on Doyle Melancon Road, a location where heavy rain and thunderstorms had likely reduced visibility for drivers.

St. Martin Parish deputies responded to a 911 call and arrived at the scene to find LeBlanc lying on the side of the road. Authorities confirmed that the elderly man had been struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene without stopping. At the time of reporting, the driver responsible for the collision remains unidentified.

LeBlanc’s sister, who resides nearby, shared that her brother was a regular pedestrian, often crossing the road to check his mail. She expressed deep sorrow over his death, especially as it came only one week after the passing of his wife, Elizabeth LeBlanc, who had died due to health-related issues. The loss of both his wife and now her brother has left the family devastated.

In addition to the family’s grief, LeBlanc’s sister revealed that this was not the first hit-and-run tragedy to affect their family. A few years ago, the daughter of a cousin was killed in a similar crash along Poydras Highway, not far from where LeBlanc was struck. The ongoing impact of such tragedies has left the community shaken and deeply concerned.

Local residents of the area have raised alarms about the ongoing safety risks posed by speeding on Doyle Melancon Road. Many believe that reckless driving on the narrow, often wet road increases the likelihood of accidents, posing a risk not only to pedestrians but also to other drivers. The concern over speeding in the area has become a focal point for those who worry that without increased enforcement or traffic calming measures, more lives could be at risk.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and St. Martin Parish authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the crash or the suspect vehicle to come forward. Tips can be reported anonymously to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-394-3071, or to St. Martin Crime Stoppers at 337-441-3030. Additionally, tips can be submitted through the free P3 Tips App, with the potential for a cash reward if the information leads to an arrest.

As the community continues to mourn the loss of Charles LeBlanc, the hope is that authorities will identify the responsible party and bring justice to the grieving family.
