Jeff Bourque Sentenced to Life in Prison for Child Sex Abuse

by Lina Tarson

New Iberia, La. — A 47-year-old man convicted of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence, according to interim 16th Judicial District Attorney Michael Haik.

Jeff Bourque was found guilty by a jury of one count of rape, one count of attempted rape, and two counts of molestation of a juvenile. The charges stem from repeated acts of sexual abuse against a young girl, which she disclosed to her mother. Authorities say the mother promptly reported the abuse to law enforcement, triggering a thorough investigation.

Detectives with the New Iberia Police Department uncovered additional materials during the investigation that corroborated the victim’s statements, strengthening the case against Bourque.

At a sentencing hearing held Friday, April 11, 2025, before the Honorable Judge Curtis Sigur, Bourque was handed multiple sentences. In addition to the mandatory life sentence for the rape conviction, he received a 40-year sentence for attempted rape and 50 years for each count of molestation—all to be served without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension.

“I find it particularly fitting that this sexual predator was brought to justice and sentenced for his crimes against a child during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week,” Haik said in a statement.

Haik also praised the efforts of the prosecution team, Assistant District Attorneys Ashley Hammons and Brady Holtzclaw, as well as New Iberia Police Department detectives Craig Gregory and Malinda Meyers, the latter now serving with the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

Authorities are using this case as a reminder of the importance of reporting sexual abuse.

“If you or someone you know is a victim of sexual abuse, please contact your local law enforcement,” Haik urged.
