MORGAN CITY, LA – Two suspects were arrested on April 10th in connection to a murder that occurred in Winn Parish earlier this month, thanks to the use of Morgan City Police’s newly implemented safety camera system.
Christian Campbell, 22, of Goldonna, and Amaney Labouve, 19, of Ardoin Cove, Welsh, were apprehended after authorities traced a stolen vehicle, which had been linked to the April 6th slaying of 55-year-old Randell Kelley in the Brewton Mill community. Kelley, a resident of Winn Parish, was found dead in his home after his employer became concerned when he failed to report to work. Family members discovered the grim scene.
The investigation took a significant turn when Morgan City Police received a tip that the stolen vehicle was in the area. Upon further investigation, authorities learned that Campbell and Labouve were possibly connected to the murder. The police shared the information with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Berwick Police Department, both of which assisted in the search.
Late on the evening of April 10th, the vehicle was located. Officers successfully stopped the car and arrested both suspects without incident. As the investigation unfolded, the suspects were booked on charges related to possession of stolen things, and additional warrants for murder and attempted murder charges were later issued by the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Campbell faces a range of charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen things, and obstruction of justice. Labouve has been charged with possession of stolen things, accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder, and failure to report the commission of certain felonies.
The two suspects were transported to the St. Mary Parish Jail before being scheduled for extradition to Winn Parish, where they will face the murder charges related to Kelley’s death.
Sheriff Josh McAllister of Winn Parish commended the teamwork between local law enforcement agencies in the swift apprehension of the suspects. He also emphasized the crucial role of the new safety camera system in assisting the Morgan City Police with the investigation.
As of now, Campbell and Labouve are awaiting transport to Winn Parish to face the charges against them. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the murder.
