Flooding Causes Road Closures Across Acadiana

Lafayette, LA – As heavy rainfall continues to impact Acadiana, several major roadways have been closed due to flooding, creating hazardous driving conditions for commuters throughout the region.

Broussard Road Closures

As of 9 a.m. today, Broussard Police confirmed that U.S. 90 at Louisiana 92 has been closed in both eastbound and westbound directions due to rising waters. Authorities are on the scene, and updates will be provided as the situation unfolds. Motorists are advised to avoid the area until further notice.

Evangeline Thruway Reopens

In a positive development, the Evangeline Thruway has now been reopened, along with most other roadways in the region. However, drivers should still exercise caution as some flooding remains in low-lying areas.

Jefferson St. Underpass Remains Closed

One of the more significant closures is the underpass at Jefferson St., which remains blocked off due to standing water. Local authorities are monitoring the situation, and it is unclear when the underpass will reopen.

Carencro Flooding

In Carencro, several roadways have been rendered impassable by floodwaters, affecting both residential and business areas. Roads currently flooded include:

  • Rampart St

  • Walter Dr

  • Prejean Rd (from Wisteria Bend to Gourmet)

  • Arceneaux Rd

  • Francois Rd (near Breaux Rd)

  • North University Ave (southbound lane) near Sonic

Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes and avoid these areas until conditions improve.

Youngsville and Surrounding Areas

Flooding has also impacted Youngsville and nearby roads. Key routes currently closed or experiencing heavy flooding include:

  • Fortune Rd (between Bonin and Youngsville Hwy)

  • Larriviere

  • Chemin Metairie (by Ambassador)

These roads are also considered hazardous, and local authorities have advised drivers to remain vigilant and avoid travel unless absolutely necessary.
