CARENCRO, La. — Two unrelated house fires late Friday night kept Carencro and Lafayette firefighters busy and left multiple responders injured, though all residents escaped without harm.
The first blaze broke out just before 9 p.m. on Hidden Oaks Drive. According to officials, a vehicle caught fire under the carport of a residence, and the flames quickly spread to the attic. When fire crews arrived on the scene, flames were already visible through the roof of the home.
Despite the extensive fire damage to the house, no injuries were reported among the occupants, all of whom made it out safely. However, two Carencro firefighters sustained minor burns while battling the blaze. Both were treated at the scene.
Just a few hours later, at approximately 12:15 a.m., firefighters were called to a second fire on the 2700 block of Gendarme. This time, the fire was reported in a double-wide mobile home, with flames again visible through the roof upon arrival.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire quickly, but not before it caused heavy damage to roughly 50 percent of the structure. All occupants evacuated without injury. During the operation, one Lafayette firefighter was injured when part of the ceiling collapsed. He was transported to a local hospital, treated, and later released.
Authorities confirmed that investigations into the cause of both fires are ongoing.
