Sulphur Man Accused of Stabbing Six-Year-Old Stepson, Cancer Patient, Remains in Custody

ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA — Patrick Greene, a 37-year-old Sulphur high school employee, remains in custody following a Tuesday morning court appearance where he faced charges related to the stabbing of his six-year-old stepson, Korbin.

Korbin, who is currently hospitalized in Baton Rouge and fighting for his life, is a cancer patient suffering from a massive brain tumor. According to his grandmother, Norma Modglin, the tumor’s removal left Korbin with no mobility on the left side of his body, rendering him unable to walk or defend himself during the attack.

Deputies with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office report that Greene stabbed the child multiple times in the face, neck, and chest. The incident reportedly occurred while Korbin’s mother and siblings were at home.

“This baby could not fight for himself. He could not defend himself,” Modglin said tearfully outside the courtroom. “It’s been a total nightmare. I’ve watched my three-year-old grandbaby break down and sob, saying ‘Korbs is never coming back, he’s never coming home.’ No three-year-old should have to witness that.”

Dozens of family members, friends, and supporters gathered at the St. Landry Parish Jail Annex in solidarity, many wearing blue to show support for Korbin. They are urging the court to deny Greene bond, fearing he poses a danger to the community.

“We are praying that no bail is offered,” said Korbin’s grandfather, Hal Modglin. “This man is too dangerous to be in our population — around our children and families. We don’t know what made him snap at this time, but I’m sure it will come out during trial. This will affect their lives forever. We are here to make sure they get justice.”

In court, Greene appeared emotionless as the judge ordered that he remain in custody until a hearing under Gwen’s Law is held Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. Gwen’s Law requires judges to review the accused abuser’s history and assess the risk they may pose before setting bail in domestic violence-related cases.

Greene is currently on administrative leave from his position at the high school pending the outcome of the case.
