LEONVILLE, La. — Patrick Greene, 37, accused of stabbing his six-year-old stepson, will remain in custody until a bond hearing scheduled for July 3, court officials confirmed. Greene faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault, domestic abuse, and resisting an officer, following the violent incident Sunday night that left the child hospitalized in critical condition.
Deputies from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a Leonville residence Sunday evening, where they found the young boy suffering from multiple stab wounds. The child was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to a specialized medical facility in Baton Rouge for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Family members identified Greene as the child’s stepfather. According to reports, Greene is employed by the Calcasieu Parish School System and has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
The child is a brain cancer survivor who previously received treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, family sources revealed.
A Gwen’s Law hearing, originally scheduled for Thursday but postponed to July 3, will assess Greene’s criminal history and evaluate potential risks should he be granted bond. Such hearings are commonly held in Louisiana domestic violence cases to help determine the appropriateness of releasing defendants pending trial.
In an effort to preserve the integrity of the jury pool and maintain the trial within St. Landry Parish, the presiding judge issued a gag order limiting public discussion of the case outside the courtroom.
Greene’s defense attorneys, Jason Robideaux and Donald Cleveland of Lafayette, declined to comment following Tuesday’s hearing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-948-6516 or Crime Stoppers at 337-948-TIPS.
