Lafayette, LA – A 39-year-old Church Point woman was arrested in Lafayette Parish on multiple charges following an investigation into the exploitation of an elderly individual.
Authorities said Paris Chavis was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of exploitation of elderly persons or persons with infirmities and 19 counts of identity theft.
According to investigators, Chavis was employed as the victim’s caretaker when she allegedly used the victim’s bank card to make 19 purchases through an inmate communications service at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
The investigation was conducted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Elderly Services Detectives and remains ongoing. No additional information has been released.
